[Akame House]

In the time leading up to the big day Kame knew exactly where to find Jin whenever there was a free scrap of time.  All he had to do was walk down the hall to the room decorated in blues and greens.  There he would find Jin reorganizing things, the soccer and baseball memorabilia, the toys and closet.

“Hey,” Kame joined Jin where he sat in the very center of the room.  Both of them had just gotten home and within ten minutes the older man was already here, immersing himself in the calming yet terrifying room.  He leaned against his love and looked out through the large window, light filtering in that silent afternoon.

“I’m so excited,” Jin pressed a kiss on Kame’s cheek, “I don’t know what to do.  Am I even going to be a good dad?”

“You are going to be amazing,” Kame whispered, “The kids at the school love you.  You handle them perfectly and Jay is going to love you.  In fact I might end up being jealous of how much he’s going to love you,” Kame whispered.

[The Next Day]

Jin bounced up and down at the airport, his energy exploding and he couldn’t stop staring at the “Arrivals” board to check the status of the flight every few seconds.

Kame grabbed Jin’s arm and pulled him down beside him, “if you don’t stop bouncing like that,” he hissed.

The numerous things Kame could do, or withhold, came to mind.  He sat down next to his husband.

“But Kazu,” he whined, “I’m just so excited, the flight landed just a couple minutes ago.”

Kame grinned at him, “I’m excited too,” he pecked Jin on the lips, uncaring of how the people around them reacted.

Jin wrapped his arms around Kame’s waist, “in a few minutes Jay-baby will be here.”

“A-Akanishi Jin and Kazuya?” A timid voice asked.

They turned towards the voice and the small lady standing before them.  Behind her one of the airport employees was carrying the baby seat.

Jin jumped up, a huge smile flashing onto his face, “Tanagawa-san?”

Kame rose beside him as the woman smiled.

“Wonderful,” she smiled and walked up to them, gently cradling the blue bundle in her arms, “Here’s little Jason.”

“M-may I?” Jin whispered, his eyes tearing up.  He rushed over to take his son into his arms for the first time.

“Of course,” she carefully handed the baby over.

Jin took the baby boy, supporting his head with practiced ease, “Hey.”

Kame gently pulled the blanket down, fully uncovering the sleeping boy’s face, “he’s beautiful,” he whispered in awe before turning to the woman, “You’ll be staying until tomorrow right?  To make sure things get settled and take care of the last bits of paperwork?”

“Yes, I’m sorry this process is taking so long.  Normally everything would be taken care of before he could come home but considering your schedules and all the trouble you’ve gone through already,” she explained, “I’ll just go home with you to help settle him in and then I’ll just head to the…”

“You’re staying with us, right?” Kame looked up expectantly.

“I have hotel reservations,” she explained.

“No, you can’t stay in a hotel!” Jin insisted, “you’ll be much more comfortable with us.”

“It’s been decided, there’s no getting out of it now.  You checked some bags right?” Kame reached out, wanting to hold their baby boy.

Jin pouted and cooed at the darling one last time before handing him to Kame.  He took the baby seat from the employee, smiling and handing off a tip before following his husband and the woman from the adoption agency.

[Akame House]

Kame rocked the upset boy as they sat in the living room.

Jin walked into the room after taking the woman’s baggage to the guestroom, “where’s Kyoko?” Jin excitedly asked, “She wanted to meet Jay so badly!”

“Kyoko?” Tanagawa asked, tilting her head curiously.

“She’s here three to four days a week, our housekeeper,” Kame explained while placing a kiss on Jay’s forehead once he had stopped fussing.

“I see,” she replied, “I’m sure she’ll be very…”

“AH, Kyoko!” Jin happily exclaimed when the woman in question walked in with tea.  He took the tray from her, “you have to meet Jay.  He’s the cutest baby you’ve ever seen.”

An hour later Jin was reading through the last papers they needed to sign.

“Kazu come sign here,” he gestured.

Kame handed Jay off to Kyoko who immediately began to rock him lightly.

He quickly signed, trusting Jin not to ask him to sign something ridiculous.

“And this is the last piece before it’s official,” Tanagawa smiled, pushing the paper across the field.

Jin sighed, “Sometimes I wish I wasn’t the one who had gone through law school,” he pouted before starting to read through the last of the forms.  He looked up longingly at Jay before willing himself back to work.

As soon as he finished signing he looked at Kame expectantly.  Immediately he took his baby boy up to his nursery to put him to sleep, he was long due for his nap.

“I really hope he doesn’t take after Jin’s childish personality,” Kame signed his name one last time.

“He’s nice, would it really be that bad?” Tanagawa asked.

“He would be lucky to end up like either of his fathers,” Kyoko smiled, “I’m going to head home, Kame.”

“Oh of course, sorry we kept you so long,” Kame apologized quickly.

“He’s a beautiful baby, I was happy too,” she bowed and collected her bag to leave.

“Travel safe,” Kame called, “I guess it wouldn’t be so bad, as long as he has more common sense.”

She nodded, “do you mind if I go to sleep?  It was a long day, he’s not nearly as fussy with you as anyone else.  Must have known who his parents are.”

“Of course, I’ll show you up.”

On the way they were distracted by the sight they saw in the nursery.  Jin rocking the little boy while singing a gentle lullaby.

“I think you’ll be fine if he ends up like your husband,” she said before bidding Kame good night.

Kame smiled and walked in, “I told you that you’d be amazing with him.”

“Shhh,” Jin held a finger up to lips.  He looked down at the unmoving bundle with a beaming smile, “I just got him to bed.”

“Good night, Jay,” Kame leaned down and placed a kiss on both cheeks before turning the baby monitor on.

[Two months Later]

“Kazu!  Kazu come here!” Jin cried excitedly.

Kame came running in, his hair tied up into a ponytail and an apron tied around his waist, “what’s wrong?” he looked around the nursery in panic.

“Listen,” Jin sat in front of Jay who was looking up at his father with wide eyes.

The boy raised his arms up, expecting to be held, “daddy,” he whined.

“Did you hear that?” Jin scooped up his son and giggled along with the baby boy.

“Jin, babies speak gibberish, it could just be…” Kame was cut off by their son.

“Papa?” The little boy squirmed in Jin’s arms reaching out for his other father.

“Aww, come here,” Kame clapped and immediately took the boy into his arms, “you’re so smart, Jay yes you are!”

“I got it all on video!” Jin exclaimed, pointing to the camera that had been recording the exchange.

“You and that camera,” Kame sighed, kissing Jay on the nose happily.

“Don’t sigh about the camera, you know you love it.  All the albums I’ve made, the DVDs of his first steps, his first words,” Jin huffed.

Kame smiled and leaned forward to peck Jin on the lips.

“Not in front of Jay!” Jin whined and covered his son’s eyes.

“What am I going to do with you?” Kame sighed and looked at Jay, “Don’t take after your daddy, I might cry.”

“Love me?” Jin smiled.

“Daddy?” Jay seemed to frown.

“Yes your daddy,” Kame smiled, “why did you insist on teaching him to call you daddy again?”

“Because it’s adorable, and I’m totally the daddy, you’re papa,” Jin explained, “And if he’s calling me daddy then Jennifer will definitely call me daddy,” he smiled, completely off in his own world.

“Ah, you’re going to have time to go with me, right?” Kame arched an eyebrow.

“Oh, yeah I’ll be able to,” Jin smiled, “I wouldn’t miss it for the world.  We weren’t able to pick up Jay personally, but we still managed to make it out to see him beforehand so definitely.”

Kame smiled, “You hear that Jay?  You’re going to have a baby sister soon.  Now you just turned one and she’s only seven months old so you’re going to have to be nice to her, ok?”

Jay looked up at him, his big brown eyes confused.

Jin kissed Jay on the forehead, “you’re too cute.”

[Two Weeks Later]

Jin carried Jay, a huge smile on his face, while Kame pushed the double-seated baby stroller.  They were met by Tanagawa at the doors to the building.

“I’m glad you were able to make it!” She exclaimed, immediately smiling down at Jay, “How are you JayJay?”

“Wha?” Jay gurgled.

“Has he had his first words?” She asked warmly.

“He’s already started calling us Papa and Daddy,” Kame beamed, “And he’s absolutely excited to have a sister, we’ve been teaching him to say Jennifer, though of course he can only get as far as ‘Jenn’.”

“He’s so cute,” Tanagawa said before taking them inside.

An hour later they had, once again, finished all the paperwork and were presented with a fussy baby girl.

“Jenn!” Jin squealed, which he later would claim to be a ‘manly’ squeal, and immediately rushed to hold his baby girl.  Kame smiled at the scene, almost identical to when Jay had first come to them minus the airport.

“Jason Hibiki and Jennifer Hotaru,” Tanagawa chuckled lightly, “they’ll be the finest children.”

Kame carried Jay over to Jin and held him up to the pink bundle, “Ne, Jay.  This is your baby sister, Jennifer.”

“Jenn?” Jay looked at the slumbering baby with huge, wide eyes.

“That’s right,” Jin smiled brightly, “This is Jennifer.”

“JennJenn,” Jay attempted, screwing up his nose adorably.  He curiously reached out to touch her face.

Jin pulled the pink blanket down carefully, exposing a chubby little arm and hand for Jay to hold, “This is Jennifer.  She’s your baby sister who you’ll look after and love and be protective of.  You can help daddy keep boys from her when she’s still not old enough to even look at them,” Jin whispered into his son’s ear as Jennifer closed her tiny fingers around Jay’s hand.

Jay’s eyes widened even more, making Kame chuckle, at the tiny hand clutching his own, “I think they’re going to get along.”

“Definitely,” Tanagawa smiled at the happy family.  They weren’t the most orthodox family she had ever seen, far from it actually, but she was sure they would be perfect.

“Are you ready to go home?” Kame whispered, smiling as Jay tried to get a better look at his sister.

[One Month Later]

Kame sighed as he carefully set Jennifer into her crib.  The moment his touch left though she woke back up and began to fuss.

“Shh, shh,” he picked her back up and started to rock her, “It’s ok, and it’s bedtime.  Be nice for papa and go to sleep.”

He frowned at her continuing whining and opened his mouth to sing the song that Jay loved to hear so much.  Immediately she began to calm down at his voice and after a few minutes he happily set her down.  When he received no response after two minutes he snuck into their bedroom.

“She asleep?” Jin looked up from where he appeared to be working on some designs.

“Yeah, I was hoping she wouldn’t be so happy with music like Jay though.  That’s my fifth night in a row I’ve had to sing her to sleep,” Kame sat next to Jin and wrapped an arm around his waist.

“I go straight for singing whenever it’s my turn.  Gets her to sleep no issues, Jay too,” Jin smiled, “They must just love our gorgeous voices, Kazu.  We should’ve become idols, imagine all the fans we could have.  We’d have to have signatures dancing styles though… yours would be always being perfect in every step and I would have perfect hip-rolls,” he joked.

“I can believe the bit about hip-rolls,” Kame smirked.

Jin flushed lightly, “Kazu,” he mumbled, “after I finish this work.”

“What are you working on?” Kame set his chin on Jin’s shoulder, looking down at the sketchpad.

He remembered when he had found out Jin personally designed and sketched every piece of custom jewelry he was given, and that he even helped design some of AJ’s most popular pieces.

“Jennifer’s first custom bracelet,” Jin bit the tip of his tongue lightly, altering the line of the bracelet.

“What?” Kame frowned, “Isn’t it a bit early?”

“I started designing Jay’s stuff around this time,” Jin reminded, “his first pendant and bracelet.”

“They’re a bit young…” Kame trailed off.

“It’s not as if I’m going to have them wearing as much jewelry as you,” Jin grinned, “Besides, they’ll be memories.  And you can never start a collection too young.  I need to start designing a special tiara for Jenn, her first birthday is in only four months and I have to get it perfect!  I have to finish them.”

“Is this because I wouldn’t let you name her Tiara?” Kame groaned.

“No,” Jin pouted, “But I hadn’t thought of that just yet, nice!  But no, I don’t have any sisters so I had to be told about them but all the Akanishi daughters get tiara certain jewelry presents at certain birthdays,” he added a line in before moving on to another piece of paper, “normally you’d get a tiara when you’re born, but since… you know, she’s getting two of the special ones at her first.”

“What about sons?” Kame curled up to Jin, he still didn’t quite understand all the idiosyncrasies of the Akanishi family but he loved hearing about them.

“Boys get certain presents too,” Jin explained, “the girls’ are a bit more fun typically though.  You can be more whimsical, us boys get more practical ones.  First pendant/locket when born, first custom bracelet, then you start getting things like diamond studded cufflinks and tie-pins.  When you’re older you get rings and things, ‘cause you won’t grow out of them as quickly at that point…”

Kame blinked, “that’s why you designed those for Jay?”

“I thought you knew,” Jin frowned, “mum said she had gone over some of this stuff with you.”

“I’ve never heard this story.  Your family confuses me,” Kame collapsed into the pillows.

Jin blinked, “but I’ve been giving you the proper presents for about five years now, I thought you knew.”

“You what?” Kame sat up again, “But I’m not an Akanishi… or I wasn’t,” he amended quickly.

Jin smiled, “When I realized how much I loved you, when I decided that I would give up having children of my own, I decided then I wanted to marry you.  I just decided the presents would be a nice start to show that.  Dad did the same thing with mum, and my aunty with my uncle… I swore either I or mum has told you about this.”

“Never once,” Kame sighed and pulled Jin closer, “put the sketchbook away.  Tomorrow’s Saturday you can do some more later.  You’re just… what am I going to do with Jin?  I swear every time we discuss jewelry some new weird family tradition comes up and I’m floored each time.  Like when I found out about our engagement rings being heirlooms or when you told me the story about that pendant that can only be given to the girls of the direct family.”

“Mum will be giving it to Jenn when she’s ten,” Jin smiled happily and frowned, “that had better not happen for a long, long time.”

Kame chuckled, “do I get a say in how this jewelry turns out?”

“Of course!  You can help me in the morning.  I was going to ask for your opinion on the bracelet once I finish the preliminary.  Shame we don’t know their favorite colors yet,” Jin sighed.

“We could always try to figure it out?  Put colors in front of them and see to which they react the strongest,” Kame suggested playfully.

“That could work but we’ll just stick to diamonds and pearls, classic and you can never go wrong with them.  When they get older we can worry about favorite colors and their favorite stones,” Jin smiled, his mind already going through all the possibilities, “and I’m definitely going to have to get them some things with their power stones…”

Kame moved to straddle Jin, “stop talking about jewelry, stones, diamonds, and family traditions.”

Jin nodded meekly and finally set his notebook and pencils to the side.  Kame grinned and threw a pillow out of the way and shoved Jin down onto his back.
